On February 6, 2013 the Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation for Exhibitions and Fairs and Support of Producers and Exporters held a meeting devoted to the results of the Committee's work in 2012 and its plans for 2013.

Sergey Bednov, the Chairman of the Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation for Exhibitions and Fairs and Support of Producers and Exporters, and General Director of Expocentre ZAO, gave a talk on the priorities for 2013. He mentioned that one of the key areas of work of the Committee is carrying out of the development concept for exhibitions and congress activities in Russia.

According to Sergey Bednov, a round table in the Council of the Federation, where representatives of the exhibition business and associations of producers would discuss a wide range of issues, could strengthen cooperation with the authorities in the development of exhibition and congress activity.

To draw attention of the government to the exhibition activities, it would be a good idea for the Committee of the Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation to prepare an annual report with analysis of the current state of exhibition activities in Russia addressed to the executive and legislative branches of the government.

As the keystone Sergey Bednov mentioned the need for a law of exhibitions and fairs organization.

Sergey Bednov stressed the need to increase the participation of industry and business associations in the development of exhibition and congress activity. Interaction of industry associations with exhibition organizers would help to solve such issues as creation of a system to support the participation of Russian companies in exhibitions at home and abroad, coordination of exhibitions in Russia, and attracting target audiences to the exhibitions.

At the session, the heads of the leading industry associations such as the Russian Handicraft and Art Association, the Laser Association, the Stankoinstrument Russian Association of Machine-Tool Producers, the Union of Timber Manufacturers and Exporters and other companies and associations were accepted as new members of the Committee.

The Committee's efforts should also be directed at improving the efficiency of Russian expositions abroad, to create a clear, transparent and optimal expert procedure of definition of such exhibitions. The current task is to promote Yekaterinburg in the competition for the Expo’2020 World Exhibition.

Sergey Bednov raised the issues of cooperation and coordination of the exhibition and congress activities within the Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation.
